The third release in this second series is considered one of the greatest comic book heroes of all time: Captain America. Created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby in 1941, Cap became one of the most popular and inspirational characters of World War II. After fading away in the 1950s, Captain America was revived during the 1960s Marvel explosion by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee in The Avengers #4, released in March 1964. He has been a mainstay of the Marvel line ever since.
